The One K-Beauty Brand Korea Is Searching *More*: SKIN1004, Read Off the Data (2026)
Over the year to June 2026, most K-beauty brands lost ground in Korean search. One didn't just hold — it nearly doubled. We put SKIN1004 under three lenses: how fast it's actually rising, who in Korea is looking it up, and why the English word 'centella' shows you under a fifth of its real story.

The One K-Beauty Brand Korea Is Searching More: SKIN1004, Read Off the Data (2026)
Most of our trend pieces rank a whole shelf at once — brands against brands, ingredients against ingredients. This one does the opposite. We take a single brand and stand it under every lens we have, because the numbers on this one brand happen to line up into a story.
Here's the short version. Across the fourteen K-beauty brands we track in Korean search, the year to June 2026 was a year of cooling — nine of them lost interest, and several of the biggest names lost a lot. SKIN1004 went the other way. Its Korean search interest nearly doubled, rising faster than twice any other brand in our set, and its single highest month in thirteen is the most recent one.
Rising is rare. So it's worth asking the three questions we'd want answered before buying into a brand on the way up: how real is the rise, who is actually driving it, and what does the English-language version of this brand miss?
How We Measured This
HOW WE EVALUATE
This is Naver DataLab's relative search index, pulled through Naver's open API, for the thirteen complete months ending June 2026. DataLab never reports raw volumes — only relative interest, re-scaled inside each request. Where we compare SKIN1004's standing to other brands, everything is anchored to COSRX = 1.00 inside the same slice, exactly as in our brand-by-demographic piece. When we track SKIN1004's rise over time, we use its own month-to-month figures, which don't depend on that anchor at all.
The limitation that matters most here. Search is attention, not sales. A brand climbing in search means more Koreans are looking it up — comparing, checking, discovering — which is an earlier and softer signal than a receipt. For a brand (unlike a single ingredient) a rise in search is a reasonably encouraging demand signal, because people search a brand name when they're deciding between products. But it is still a measure of interest, not of units sold, and we can't see the raw numbers underneath.
What else this can't tell you. Month-to-month, this index is choppy — SKIN1004 dips and spikes, so we lean on averaged windows rather than any single pair of months. We again set Medicube aside wherever we rank the field: its Korean search is dominated by its beauty-device line, not skincare, so its number isn't comparable to the rest. And demographic figures average three women's age bands and two men's, because Naver's male-40s data for these brands is too thin to read.
Lens 1 — The Rise Is Real, and It Stands Alone
Here is the year, brand by brand: the change in Korean search interest from June 2025 to June 2026.
| Brand | Search interest, year to Jun 2026 |
|---|---|
| SKIN1004 | +97% |
| Anua | +37% |
| Illiyoon | +18% |
| Aestura | +16% |
| Beauty of Joseon | +4% |
| Laneige | −13% |
| Torriden | −14% |
| Goodal | −14% |
| numbuzin | −16% |
| Isntree | −18% |
| Some By Mi | −27% |
| Round Lab | −36% |
(Medicube excluded, per the note above. Each figure is one brand's own June-2026 index divided by its June-2025 index — a within-brand ratio that doesn't depend on the cross-brand anchor, so you can read it straight.)
Only five of these brands rose at all. SKIN1004, at +97%, rose more than two and a half times as fast as the next brand on the list. Nobody else is close.
Because a single June-to-June pair can be flattered by one good month, we checked it a second way — averaging the two halves of the period rather than trusting the endpoints:
- Second half of 2025 (Jun–Dec), average index: 28.7
- First half of 2026 (Jan–Jun), average index: 43.4 — a +51% step up between the two windows.
And measured against COSRX — a large, stable reference brand — SKIN1004 crossed over during the year: it sat at 0.59 of COSRX in June 2025 and 1.23 in June 2026, moving from well below the reference to comfortably above it. The rise survives every way we cut it. It is choppy, but it is not a fluke of one month.

Lens 2 — Who in Korea Is Actually Looking It Up
A rising brand is more interesting when you know who is driving it. Using the same demographic split as our brand-by-age-and-gender piece — everything relative to COSRX = 1.00 within each group, June 2026:
| SKIN1004, relative to COSRX | Index |
|---|---|
| Among women | 1.11 |
| Among men | 0.79 |
| Women in their 20s | 1.01 |
| Women in their 30s | 1.09 |
| Women in their 40s | 1.22 |
Two things stand out, and both cut against how a "Madagascar centella" brand tends to be marketed abroad.
It skews female, but only mildly (1.11 vs 0.79) — nothing like Round Lab's male tilt or numbuzin's female one. SKIN1004 sits closer to the middle than most of the shelf.
And within women, it climbs with age. Its standing among women in their 40s (1.22) is meaningfully above its standing among women in their 20s (1.01). That's the same quiet pattern we found for Anua and Beauty of Joseon in Korea: centella-forward brands sold to a young global audience often index highest with older Korean women, who tend to shop by barrier and soothing needs rather than by whatever went viral. If you're older than the marketing imagines its buyer, this brand is arguably more "for you" in Korea than the campaign suggests.
Lens 3 — The Centella Trap: You're Seeing Under a Fifth of It
Here's the piece an English-language reader is most likely to miss, and it's the reason a brand like this can rise in Korea largely out of view.
SKIN1004's whole identity is Madagascar Centella. But as we found measuring Korea's ingredient index, Korea calls centella three different things, and searches them separately:
| Korean term | Share of the plant's total search |
|---|---|
| 시카 (cica) | 51.9% |
| 병풀 (byeongpul — the plant's Korean name) | 29.6% |
| 센텔라 (centella — the transliteration) | 18.5% |
센텔라 is the term that maps to the English word you already use — and it's the smallest of the three. So if you gauge how much Korea cares about centella by searching the word you know, you're watching under a fifth of the actual conversation. The bulk of it happens under 시카 and 병풀, which most English-language readers never type.
This is why a brand built on centella can nearly double in Korean interest while looking, from the English side, like it's holding steady: much of the demand pulling it up is filed under Korean words the export audience isn't watching.

Why This Matters When You Buy
Rising is a better time to look than peaked. By the time a brand is on every English "best of" list, you're arriving at the top of its curve. SKIN1004 is one of the few brands our data shows still climbing in its home market — which is the moment to evaluate it on its merits, not the moment after.
"Still climbing" is a demand signal, not a verdict on your skin. The number says Korea is looking this brand up more; it does not say the ampoule suits your barrier better than what you already own. Centella is a soothing, barrier-supporting story — sensible for reactive or redness-prone skin — but that's a reason to consider it, not a promise. Patch test, as always.
Read the age signal honestly. In Korea this brand over-indexes with women in their 40s, not just the twenty-somethings it's marketed to abroad. If you're in that older band, the data is quietly on your side; if you're shopping for a teenager because the packaging looks young, it's a weaker match than the campaign implies.
And the honest note about us. We've written far more about the cooling canon — snail, heartleaf, cica-as-a-word — than about the brands quietly rising underneath it. Publishing SKIN1004's numbers, including the unflattering "searches under a fifth of it" finding that partly explains why we missed the rise, is how we keep ourselves measuring instead of guessing.
